Practical Skills
Students are taught how to create functional or decorative clay products and learn shaping and clay preparation, constructing, finishing and glazing, the theory of firing clay and creating an understanding of making a clay product. Through instruction and demonstration students develop the technical skills needed.
Creative Expression
Aside from being a craft, the ceramic medium may also be used as a medium for artistic expression, which is why we urge students to play with shape, structure, detail and surface finish in developing their own unique process and style in manipulating the clay while gaining an understanding of its technical requirements.
